♦ Wildlife Habitat

One of the most popular activities to do in Port Douglas is to visit the Wildlife Habitat animal sanctuary! This place features five natural habitats for its residents, including woodlands, wetlands, rainforest, savannah, and nocturnal. Among the animals you can meet here include koalas, kangaroos, emus, wallabies, and lorikeets. You can even opt to feed the wallabies or crocodiles, and cuddle with a cute koala! If you arrive early enough, you can even participate in their Breakfast with the Birds event, which includes a buffet breakfast and the chance to get up close and personal with native bird species! Wildlife Habitat is a perfect activity for children and adults alike!

♦ Four Mile Beach

It’s hard to think of Port Douglas and not have Four Mile Beach come to mind. This beautiful curved stretch of beach offers breathtaking scenery, crystal blue waters, and great amenities, including a few nearby cafes where you can quickly grab a bite to eat. While you’re able to swim at this, it is important to be aware of the stingers and crocs that dwell in the waters off this coastline. There is, however, a designed netted swimming area and lifeguards on duty if you do choose to take a dip. This beach is great for taking a leisurely stroll, practicing yoga, lounging about in the sun, and just simply enjoying the nice weather!

♦ Port Douglas Courthouse Museum

To throw in a little taste of history to your vacation, consider checking out the Port Douglas Courthouse Museum. Built in 1879, this building served as the city’s first courthouse, before being eventually taken over by the town’s historical society and converted into a museum. Being one of the last timber-built houses in Queensland, it is also a part of the Queensland Heritage Register. During your visit, you can learn about the story of a famous hanging, as well as the lifestyle of former lighthouse keepers, locals who served in World War I, and more. Among the artifacts on display include newspaper clippings, films, mannequin displays, photographs, and more. Guides on site are happy to share their insights with you when you arrive!
