Piazza del Duomo is Messina’s main public square and is within walking distance from the cruise port. Its main attraction is a giant water fountain surrounded by many interesting sculptures. You can also view the Duomo building and Bell Tower (where you can go inside and watch the clock at work). There is a great variety of boutiques and cafes surrounding the square, where you can stop and immerse yourself in true Italian culture.

♦ Messina Regional Museum

Located right nearby Piazza del Duomo is the Messina Regional Museum. This is a great place to visit to learn more about the history of Messina. The museum houses archaeology exhibits and Renaissance art galleries, which contain famous works by Gagini, Antonious, and Caravaggio. The museum is currently open Tuesday to Saturday from 9AM to 6:30PM (subject to change).

♦ Torre Faro

Just a short 30-minute drive from Messina, Torre Faro is a coastal village that is perfect for a Sicilian outing. One of its most popular highlights is a white sand beach, where you can sunbathe the day away. This village is also home to a number of cafes and souvenir shops where you can discover some interesting finds to remember your cruise by. Active cruisers can try their hand at water sports while sightseers can go check out the large lighthouse that is situated nearby.
