Rostock is a fabulous port to visit during a Europe river cruise. Most cruises that include Rostock don't initially depart from Rostock, but those that do are a great starting point for your next European cruise, for many reasons! One of the biggest draws to beginning your cruise in Rostock is that you can easily take a day trip to the famous capital city of Berlin, which is roughly a 3- to 5-hour train ride from Rostock. The beautiful seaside resort of Warnemunde is a short distance (about a 15-minute drive) from the city, or you can opt to explore Rostock in favor of any other destination. Rostock is filled with wonderful seaside resorts, churches, animal attractions, iconic landmarks, and lighthouses. Plus, you can’t miss out on the chance to try a delicious fried fish sandwich, which is a local specialty. If you’re not into fried foods, you can also try fresh fish prepared in a number of styles – smoked, baked, etc. With so many wonderful things to do, see, and places within close distance to explore, you might consider spending a few extra days in the city before embarking on your cruise. A great time to visit Rostock, for enjoyable weather, is between May and September.
