These are just a few of the more popular tourist attractions in Strasbourg, along with a brief description:
♦ Strasbourg Cathedral
The most popular draw of Strasbourg is none other than the Strasbourg Cathedral. This majestic Catholic church showcases beautiful Romanesque architecture, with a few Gothic-style accents. It remains the world’s sixth-tallest church and the tallest structure to be constructed during the Middle Ages. While touring the inside, you can admire sculptures, artwork, tapestries, and a very peaceful ambiance. The façade also features a large functioning astronomical clock! For a small fee, you may also visit the top of the cathedral, where you will be rewarded with some of the most incredible views around!
♦ Place Kleber
Another exciting must-visit area is Place Kleber, Strasbourg’s main city square (and designated UNESCO World Heritage Site). You will discover many exciting things in and around Place Kleber, including a statue of general Jean-Baptiste Kleber, and a tomb containing his remains. There are a few nice cafes and bars in the area, where you can indulge in some local food and drink. During Christmas, this square becomes very festive with a huge Christmas tree, market and ice-skating rink. You might run into some local entertainment during your visit.
♦ The Orangerie Park
The Orangerie Park (or Parc de I’Orangerie), is a wonderful way to appreciate Strasbourg from a nature perspective. Not only is this park the oldest in town, but it is also filled with many incredible attractions! For example, there is a children’s playground, petting zoo, classic car circuit, walking paths, a huge beautiful lake (perfect for some romantic boating), waterfall, a pavilion, bowling alley, and even its own gourmet restaurant. Events and exhibitions are occasionally held under the pavilion, and you might even be able to see a real Stork in the zoo!
