AmaWaterways Dress Code

On an AmaWaterways river cruise it is recommended to dress “Casually elegant” for the evening. There is one semi-formal evening during each AmaWaterways cruise. There is also a Captain's Farewell Dinner, during which you may want to pack something a little dressier – similar to how one would dress to dine at a 5-star restaurant.

American Cruise Lines Dress Code

Casual resort attire is recommended both on the ship and ashore. For dinner, men’s clothing might include a sport shirt and slacks, with sport coat or sweater. Women might find a sweater and slacks, or dress appropriate. American Cruise Lines also recommends you bring comfortable walking shoes, a hat, light rain wear, and a jacket for cool evenings.

Atlas Ocean Voyages Dress Code

Aboard an Atlas Ocean Voyages’ expedition, we want you to be comfortable and recommend yacht-club casual attire. During the day, and depending on your destination and the weather, guests will be dressed in casual touring or resort attire. At night, you will find most guests dressed for casual relaxation in slacks, skirts or dresses, with sweaters or jackets optional.

Avalon Waterways Dress Code

Dress aboard an Avalon Waterways cruise is casual. Comfortable walking shoes are highly recommended for sightseeing. Examples of acceptable dinner attire are open-neck shirts, slacks, dresses. Coats and ties may be worn. The Captain's Welcome and Farewell Dinners are dressy, but not formal. The warm and humid climate of cruises on the Mekong leads to a recommendation against coats and ties.

Azamara Dress Code

In keeping with a friendly yet sophisticated onboard environment, Azamara encourages guests to follow a “resort casual” dress code. Out of respect for others, bare feet, tank tops, baseball caps, bathing suits, shorts, and torn/distressed jeans are not allowed in the dining room or specialty restaurants. When dining at Windows Café, guests must wear footwear and a cover-up or shirt. Formal evening wear is not expected nor required in restaurants. If you prefer to dress more formally, you are welcome to do so. Please note that tuxedo rentals are not available onboard.

Carnival Cruise Line Dress Code

The evening cruise attire for Carnival cruises depends on the length of the cruise. There are two types of evening Carnival dress codes: Cruise Casual and Cruise Elegant. The Carnival dress code for children is the same as the one for adults. The Lido restaurants are an option for those that don't want to dress up (available all nights except the final night of the cruise). However, even in the Lido restaurants shirts and footwear must be worn at all times.

Daytime: Casual and Comfortable: Casual attire is the order of the day when the sun is up, which can include:
Shorts, capris, khakis and jeans. T-shirts, polo shirts, blouses and tops; Summer dresses; Exercise and athletic gear, lightweight sweater, pull-over or jacket; Bathing suit, cover-up, hat or visor; Comfortable rubber-sole flat shoes, sneakers, water shoes or non-slip boat shoes with traction.
Please note: Select activities and shore excursions may require closed-toe shoes. Footwear with wheels is prohibited on board their ships.

Evening: Cruise Casual to Cruise Elegant (Sharp & Chic): As we head into the evening, the dress code takes on multiple definitions, depending on your plans, the venue or the event. Most nights, the dress code in the main dining room(s) for everyone is Cruise Casual:
Men and boys: sports slacks, khakis, jeans, tailored dress shorts and collared dress, casual or polo shirts;
Women and girls: summer dresses, casual skirts, pants, capris, dress shorts, jeans, blouses and tops;
Kids: Take a cue from the adult dress code, but at a kid-level;
Not permitted: cut-off jeans, men’s sleeveless shirts, t-shirts, gym or basketball shorts, exercise and athletic gear, baseball hats, flip-flops and bathing suit attire;
For itineraries 6 days or longer, bring your legwarmers, shoulder pads and neon-colored outfits for the ‘80s Rock-N-Glow Deck Party and a white outfit for their epic White Night Party.

Celebrity Cruises Dress Code

Celebrity classifies their cruise attire into three main categories: Daywear, Port wear and Eveningwear.

Daywear: Throughout the ship, casual resort wear, sundresses, shorts, polos, or button-downs are appropriate, paired with sandals, low heels, and loafers. Make sure you bring active wear and sneakers if you plan to hit the gym! Poolside, bathing suits with coverups, T-shirts, tanks, hats, and sunglasses are welcomed. In main and specialty dining, we ask guests to refrain from wearing swimsuits, see-through coverups or robes, bare feet, tank tops, T-shirts, and baseball caps.

Port wear: For warmer climates, pack swimsuits and cover-ups, walking shorts and shirts that protect from the sun, lightweight slacks, skirts or sundress, and a light sweater or jacket. Hats, sunglasses, and sunscreen are always encouraged. For cooler climates, bring clothing with long sleeves, sweaters, and pants that can be layered. In areas prone to snow or rain, waterproof jackets, hats, gloves, and umbrellas are recommended. Around the globe, consider appropriate shoes and gear for the excursions you have planned and the terrain you’ll encounter. For instance, you may pack water shoes if hiking a waterfall or a headscarf or conservative dress for visiting museums, mosques, temples, and churches.

Eveningwear: classified as either smart casual and above or formal, depending on the night of the cruise. The cruise line will provide you with a daily itinerary, explaining which nights are smart casual and which nights are formal.
Smart Casual: Smart Casual attire is required for entry to main dining, specialty dining, and the Celebrity Theatre. Smart Casual means you look comfortable yet tasteful in a dress, skirt, long pants, or jean, and stylish top or button-down. Shorts and flip flops are not considered Smart Casual.
Evening Chic: Each itinerary features one to two “formal” nights we call Evening Chic. Evening Chic means you dress to impress, glamorous and sophisticated in your own way, with a cocktail dress, skirt, slacks, or designer jean, an elegant dress top or blazer—some guests even pack a tuxedo or gown for onboard photos. The Daily program, delivered to your stateroom and available at the Guest Relations Desk, will be your guide to the correct attire each evening. If you do not wish to participate in Evening Chic, Smart Casual attire is acceptable for dining and theater.

It helps to check the weather shortly before departing home. Do not forget to bring comfortable walking shoes in your suitcase. They will be very useful during tourist excursions! Regarding dinners, cocktails and galas, guests tend to dress up a little more – like you would when dining in any nice restaurant. There are no strict guidelines, no requirements for suits or gowns. Swan Hellenic Dress Code

Swan Hellenic expedition cruises are mainly concerned with what happens outside the ship, so dress codes are very relaxed, and there are no formalities at mealtimes.

At breakfast and lunch, you’ll wear the clothes you'll be wearing outside (minus the outer gear). Once you’ve changed out of your expedition gear in the evening, you’ll probably want to put on something casual and comfortable. It’s always worth having an extra layer if you want to rush out on deck if something interesting has been spotted.

During the day around the ship, you’ll want casual trousers, jeans or smart sportswear, long-sleeve tops, thin jumpers, and a body warmer and/or other layers. It will be warm and comfortable inside.

Evening is casual, too – perhaps pack a couple of casual shirts and skirts/dresses. Keep footwear to a minimum. You will be provided with Swan Hellenic Expeditions parkas and rubber muck boots for shore excursions in Antarctica and the High Arctic.

Viking River Cruises Dress Code

The daytime cruise attire worn aboard a Viking River cruise ship should be comfortable and casual. The dress code for dinner is evening casual, so you should bring open-neck shirts, slacks, dresses and sport outfits. Captain’s Welcome and Farewell Nights are dressy, but not formal.

Virgin Voyages Dress Code

Virgin Voyages does not have a traditional dining room with a formal dinner requiring formal dress. It means that even at their 20+ restaurants — some of which, like The Wake, have a decidedly elevated feel — you can wear whatever makes you feel most comfortable. Just came from the pool deck in a bathing suit and flip flops? Fine by us. Heading to a shipwide pajama party later and feel like eating dinner in your PJs? More power to you. Virgin Voyages “dress code” comes down to one simple philosophy: If it feels good — wear it!
