There is no cruise port city quite like Tokyo. Simply put, you’ll never run out of something to do! From a thriving city nightlife scene to serene Japanese gardens, there is something that will appeal to everybody that visits. There are so many activities to choose from – shopping, dining, museums, temples, gardens, entertainment, and more! Japanese culture is also a huge highlight of Tokyo – if you’re into learning about different traditions, cuisine, and customs, you’re in the right place! Since Tokyo is such a large and lively city, you might consider arriving early for your cruise (or staying a few extra days afterward) and experience the city for yourself.
There are many cruise lines that feature cruises from Tokyo! Certain cruise lines also feature departures from nearby Yokohama, which is only about a 30-minute drive from Tokyo. Cruise destinations usually include Asia, Asia Pacific, and Alaska. Cruises from Tokyo typically range in length from as little as 5-nights to as long as 30+ night grand voyages.
A great time to visit Tokyo is either autumn (between September and November) or spring (between March and April). Visiting during the fall means you can take in the natural beauty of Tokyo’s fall foliage and pleasant temperatures. During the spring, you’ll be able to see the foliage that Japan is best known for - its gorgeous Japanese cherry blossoms!

These are just a few of the more popular tourist attractions in Tokyo, along with a brief description:
♦ Tokyo Skytree
For the best view of Tokyo, consider paying a visit to the Tokyo Skytree. To give you an idea of how tall this tower is, it ranks as the second tallest structure next to the famous Burj Khalifa building. You can purchase tickets to access the two observation decks, which provide you with breathtaking panoramic views of the city. The Tokyo Skytree also features a gift shop, café, upscale French-Japanese restaurant, and gallery. There is also a large aquarium located at the tower’s base. If you stick around until the sun goes down, you can see the tower all lit up, which is a true feast for your eyes!
♦ Imperial Palace
Tokyo is home to the Imperial Palace, home to the emperor of Japan. While you must fill out an application if you want to tour the inside, visitors can openly visit the gardens and admire the beautiful foliage (this is a great place to come when the cherry blossom trees are in full bloom). The gardens are open from 9AM to 4:30PM, with closings a half hour earlier in the winter and a half hour later in the summer (subject to change). You can easily access the Imperial Palace gardens by metro.
♦ Meiji Jingu
If you’re looking for an escape from the thriving city life, consider making a stop of Meiji Jingu. This shrine is a dedication to Emperor Meiji, the first emperor of modern-day Japan, and his wife Empress Shoken. There is a peaceful walking path you can take to get to the shrine, which is a great way to spend time outdoors and get in some light exercise during your vacation. There is also a small exhibition where you can view some of the Emperor’s personal assets. A relaxing forest surrounds the main complex of shrines, making for a very relaxing getaway.
