If you are looking for an “off the beaten path” kind of cruise that still has plenty of sunshine and warm weather, then a Southern Caribbean cruise might be for you. The Southern Caribbean is a popular cruise destination among veteran cruisers who have seen most of the world and are looking for an interesting mix of tropical charm and culture without a large crowd. Many cruise ships visit there each year. Large ocean liners will usually take you to islands whose tourism infrastructure has been well developed. Small ship cruise lines tend to offer itineraries that focus on a balance of developed ports and smaller, less known islands.
In the cruising world the Caribbean is divided into three regions: Eastern Caribbean, Southern Caribbean and Western Caribbean. The Southern Caribbean includes Antigua, Aruba, Curacao, Dominica, Grenada, and Martinique. Whether it’s hiking and exploring ancient ruins, snorkeling on a white-sand beach, chasing waterfalls, or shopping local markets, you’re certain to have an experience like none other.
One of the best aspects of a Southern Caribbean cruise is that if you live near a major U.S. cruise port, you can easily depart from a city near your home. There are Caribbean cruises that depart from New York City, Baltimore, Fort Lauderdale, Miami, Charleston, and Boston. Another great aspect of Southern Caribbean cruises is that they can be found in a wide range of lengths, from short 5-night cruises to longer 14-night itineraries, so there's something to fit just about anyone's vacation schedule.
American Discount Vacations is proud to offer the best deals possible on all Southern Caribbean cruises booked with us. Backed by our "Low Price Guarantee," and powered by our team of expert travel agents, we're sure to exceed your expectations when booking your next Southern Caribbean cruise!
Highlighted Southern Caribbean Cruise Attractions
The following are just a few of the many things to do while in the Southern Caribbean:
Eagle Beach
Eagle Beach is one of the largest and most beautiful beaches in Aruba. You may recognize the famous fofoti trees that are located on this beach, which have been highly popularized by photographers. If you visit during the weekend, you might be able to catch a glimpse of tennis players playing a rousing game right in the white sand. This serene beach is a perfect spot for families and provides plenty of opportunity to swim, snorkel, and tan, as well as relax in the shade or in a beach hut. Keep your eyes peeled for turtle nests, which are a common finding on this beach.
Trafalgar Falls
Trafalgar Falls is a huge twin waterfall (125 and 75 feet respectively) that is certain to enchant any nature-lovers. Real adrenaline junkies will jump at the opportunity to swim beneath the smaller of the two falls, while more reserved adventurers might enjoy taking a dip in the hot springs. There is also a viewing platform for those who prefer to stay dry.
Molinere Underwater Sculpture Park
This unique attraction is a collection of underwater art off the west coast of Grenada. There is a total of over 65 works in the park, which you can access via boat from St Georges or from Grand Anse Bay. You can view the sculptures by snorkeling, riding a glass-bottom boat, or scuba diving. If you are looking for something different than the typical shore excursions you are used to, this is worth a trip!

Some of the cruise lines in this category have ships with unique innovations like water slides, rock-climbing walls, ice-skating rinks, surfing simulators, bowling alleys, and boardwalks.
Their ships are usually anywhere from mid-sized to very large "mega" ships, accommodating thousands of guests. These ships give the feel of being in a large resort.
Mainstream cruise lines are a great option for just about everyone (including multi-generation families, and first-time cruisers), and typically have great youth programs.
During the cruise, entertainment may include Broadway productions, Vegas-style shows, comedians, and music. Some of these lines have select formal nights during the cruise. Luxury Cruise Lines
When the finest cruise vacation is your top priority, this is the place to start.
On a luxury cruise line, guests experience highly personalized service, a more intimate (and usually formal) onboard experience, gourmet cuisine, well-appointed accommodations, and fantastic amenities. Many of these brands have smaller ships, allowing them to reach ports of call that the larger ships can't, which results in unique itineraries.
All of these brands feature a version of all-inclusive pricing, and some of them have ships with all-suite accommodations. Although these cruise lines are usually more expensive than the rest, they also provide their guests with so much more, resulting in a fantastic value when considering all that's included.

Specialty Cruise Lines
These cruise lines offer a truly unique vacation experience, with a wide range of possible amenities and itineraries. Some are expedition cruise lines, others have sailing yachts or are coastal ships.
On these types of cruise lines, there's usually a focus on a specific destination or theme. Itineraries are usually very destination intensive, aided by the fact that they're able to reach many ports of call that larger ships can't.
Expedition cruise lines are a great fit for adventure-seeking travelers, featuring exciting destinations like the Galapagos Islands, Antarctica, and the Norwegian coast. During the cruise, there will usually be plenty of interesting lectures given by experts on the destination being visited. Often, shore excursions are included in the cost of the cruise. In fact, some of these cruise lines have all-inclusive pricing. There's a definite focus on the ship's surrounding scenery, as well as opportunities to view wildlife in their natural habitat. Small, but comfortable, ships are commonplace here, with anywhere from basic to very luxurious public spaces, cuisine, and accommodations (depending on the cruise line and ship).
Sailing Yachts, sail-assisted motor ships, offer a really unique vacation experience. Accommodations and cuisine on these intimate vessels can be anywhere from good to fantastic, depending on the cruise line. Destinations offered by these cruise lines may include the Caribbean, Europe, Panama Canal, Tahiti, and Costa Rica.
Carnival Cruise Line is one of the largest and most popular cruise lines in the world. Known for its festive-yet-casual atmosphere, Carnival offers a variety of on-board dining, entertainment and activity options to suit any mood or taste. Carnival's WaterWorks is a fabulous water park found onboard many of their ships. Among the many cruise destinations offered by Carnival are Alaska, the Bahamas, Canada, Caribbean, Europe and Mexico.
Enjoy legendary Disney service and entertainment, incomparable dining, exciting ports of call, and day after day of wonder-filled adventure. Here, specially designed areas and activities let adults, families, teens, and children play together and separately, creating magical memories. There are currently four ships in Disney's fleet, the classic Disney Magic and Disney Wonder (which are sister ships), as well as a new pair of sister ships, Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy. Disney's two new ships are their most innovative and largest yet (at a whopping 122,000-tons!).
