Day
1Arusha to Tarangire
Welcome to your African safari adventure! Our first stop is the Shanga Community Project, which offers employment to the disabled people of the community. Afterwards, we'll head to our first national park in Tanzania - Tarangire, home to two of Africa's giants: elephants and baobab trees. The lodge will provide us with a buffet dinner tonight, so make sure you're hungry!

2Tarangire
An early start this morning will take us into the Tarangire National Park for a full day, in the hopes for a glimpse of some of its elusive predators and changing landscapes. We'll stay here for most of the day with a packed lunch provided to give us the most opportunity of exploring this wildlife wilderness. Afterwards, we'll visit a Maasai village, meeting some of the locals to learn all about their customs and way of life. There'll be a buffet dinner tonight too, so be sure to save some room!

3Tarangire to Serengeti
After breakfast we'll set out in our safari vehicles to our next destination: the Serengeti. We take in views of the Rift valley and the rim of Ngorogoro Crater as we make our way to the main gate of the Serengeti, stopping off to visit Mto Wa Mbu Village and a local market. We'll drive through the endless plains of this vast reserve to reach our accommodation for the night. Tonights accommodation will be a safari-style lodge in the middle of the Serengeti. A buffet meal will be served for dinner, and you're free to sit outside and listen to the sounds of nocturnal animals waking up to forage or hunt, all while sitting under the bright canopy of stars in the African sky.

4Serengeti
We'll spend a full day seeking out the game of Africa's plains, with predators in hot pursuit of their prey. If the wildebeest migration is around, then you are in for a wildlife treat: millions of wildebeest and zebra grazing for as far as the eye can see really is one of Africas' greatest spectacles to observe. A buffet dinner awaits us back at our safari camp.

5Serengeti to Ngorongoro Crater
Enjoy some breakfast before we depart the Serengeti with a morning game drive on our way to our next destination, the Ngorongoro Crater. In the late morning we reach the Ngorongoro Crater, an ancient volcano, boasting one of the highest densities of predators stalking the abundant wildlife enclosed inside the volcano's centre. We'll stop here for a picnic lunch before we ascend the plateau. A true natural wonder, only found in Africa.

6Ngorongoro Crater to Arusha via Lake Manyara
Its our last day on safari and our last chance for some wildlife viewing. Opt to jump on one last game drive to Lake Manyara National Park. Renowned for its famed tree-climbing lions, Lake Manyara is a completely different ecosystem to the other parks we have visited with grassy floodplains and massive forests to spot unique wildlife and bird-life to this region. With full hearts and memories made, it's time to say fond farewells to your new lifelong friends, and to our African adventure.

Travelers Notes
* DAY 1: Trip starts in Arusha at 12:00. Travellers to arrive into Arusha Airport (ARK). Travellers must arrange their own way from the airport at their own expense. Trip Manager meets travellers at 12:00 in the hotel lobby for Shanga experience, please be aware when booking inbound flights. * DAY 6: Trip ends in Arusha at 12:00. Travellers to depart from Arusha Airport (ARK). Complimentary departure transfer arrives at Arusha Airport at 12:00 on the last day of the tour. It is not recommended to book flights prior to 15:00. For those flying out of Kilimanjaro Airport (JRO), departure transfers can be purchased through the Trip Manager. It is not recommended to book flights prior to 16:30. * TANZANIA: USA passport holders require a visa for Tanzania. Visa must be obtained prior to departure. We recommend applying approx. 60 days prior to departure. * IMPORTANT: Please see important visa details sent with your invoice. * VACCINATION: Yellow Fever vaccination is recommended for trips visiting East Africa. Yellow Fever certificate not required unless travellers are arriving from or transiting through a country or region listed by the WHO as infected with Yellow Fever (e.g. Kenya). Recommend travellers check with doctor for immunizations and vaccinations prior to travel. * IMPORTANT: The full duration of this itinerary is operated by a 4X4 safari vehicles, every one of the 7 seats is a window seat which, along with the pop top roof, gives the best wildlife viewing opportunities. The tour will travel over a variety of terrains, resulting in some rough and bumpy journeys. We would not recommend it to anyone suffering from back problems. Guests must be comfortable climbing in and out of the safari vehicle multiple times a day on this trip. * LUGGAGE: Luggage allowance is limited to 1 soft sided bag (duffel bag or similar) per traveller at maximum of 33lbs/15kg plus a day bag for sunblock, water, camera, sunscreen, and binoculars. No hard sided suitcases are permitted and weight allowance is strictly enforced. Soft sided bags make it easier for the Drive Guides to pack the luggage space efficiently. Refer to trip documents for any exceptions. * GROUND HANDLER: Contiki sometimes uses ground handlers or third parties to assist with the full or partial operation of our products. The ground handler for this trip is Quest Horizon Safaris. * SPECIAL STAY: Single accommodation at special stay Kon Tiki Serengeti Camp in the Serengeti (Days 3-4) is available at an additional cost on request basis only.
