Situated on the southern coast of Santiago Island (in the Sotavento Islands of the Republic of Cabo Verde), Praia is a great place to visit during a cruise, whether you're departing from it or visiting it during the cruise (the latter being the more common way). Praia is a very historic city with many landmark buildings (especially in its old town), a few notable museums, monuments, markets, and many beaches (Praia is Portuguese for “beach”). Those who choose to enjoy the beach will discover the water conditions perfect for sports such as surfing and water skiing. Being that Praia is located in the Atlantic and within close proximity to Africa, you will also discover mouthwatering seafood and African-style cuisine in the city’s numerous restaurants.
Ponant and Seabourn are the only cruise lines that currently offer cruises from Praia. Ponant features a few Africa itineraries onboard ships L’Austral, Le Dumont d’Urville, and Le Lyrial. Seabourn will feature a luxury cruise to Western Europe onboard their newest ship, Seabourn Venture, in April 2022. Depending on which cruise line you choose, voyages range in length between 7- and 13-nights. A great time to visit Praia for nice weather is between December and April.

Among the items you can view include gold coins, jewelry, medicine bottles, cannons, ivory, and all sorts of personal objects that once belonged to the men and women who once sailed these ships.
