As mentioned above, there is a seemingly endless variety of entertainment onboard Holland America cruises. For example, as many as 12 performance options are available nightly on all cruises. The Main Stage is a show lounge featuring exclusive concerts and a variety of performances. Select Holland America ships have special venues such as Lincoln Center Stage (via a partnership with the world’s leading center for the performing arts; featuring live chamber music performances), B.B. King’s Blues Club (home to their eight-piece all-star band, bringing the best of Memphis music to the sea), and World Stage (home to a two-story, 270-degree wraparound LED screen that surrounds you in high-definition entertainment). Complimentary films and popcorn are available in the ship’s movie theater. There are also many bars and lounges aboard each Holland America ship. Inspired Cuisine

Holland America’s Culinary Council® is comprised of a team of six world-class celebrity Chefs (Rudi Sodamin, Ethan Stowell, Jonnie Boer, Andy Matsuda David Burke, Elizabeth Falkner, and Jacques Torres), who are adding inspired new signature dishes to Holland America’s menus. From formal dinners to casual poolside snacks, there’s a wide range of dining options available aboard each Holland America ship. The main dining room serves breakfast, lunch and an amazing five-course dinner, with menu selections that include dishes inspired by the regions the ship is sailing in. Their As You Wish® dining program gives you the option of choosing between a traditional pre-set seating and dining time or a flexible open schedule in the main dining room. Optional specialty dining venues include the Pinnacle Grill (with dishes inspired by America’s Pacific Northwest and wine from celebrated vineyards around the world) and Canaletto (an authentic Italian restaurant with a menu that celebrates sharing). On select ships there is Pan-Asian restaurant Tamarind (praised by Conde Nast Traveler for cuisine “that rivals the top restaurants on land”), and Sel De Mer (an intimate seafood brasserie, offering a contemporary twist on French seafood classics). A nominal fee is charged if you choose to dine at a specialty restaurant. Several casual dining options are available, including 24-hour in-room service and the Lido Market (a modern marketplace with different themed stations, serving a casual breakfast, lunch and dinner daily). One of the highlights of the BBC Earth program aboard select Holland America cruises is “Frozen Planet in Concert,” which combines live music played to a background of video footage from BBC Earth’s “Planet Earth II” television show. On featured cruises, producers, photographers and cinematographers who’ve worked on award-winning BBC Earth programs will be onboard to host Q+As and masterclasses in their craft. Rijksmuseum at Sea, created by Rijksstudio, is a combination art gallery and art studio where you can admire a stunning collection of Dutch artwork before creating your own work of art in their cutting-edge art museum, learning new techniques every day from the friendly instructors.

Holland America’s Digital Workshop powered by Windows® is where you can learn to edit, display and share vacation videos and photographs.

Club HAL® is Holland America Line’s children and teens program, from kids ages 3 to 17. Kids can take part in a wonderful variety of activities during the cruise, supervised by a full-time staff with professional degrees.

What’s New for Holland America Line?

In December 2018, Holland America Linewill be introducing its brand-new Club Orange concept on Koningsdam and Nieuw Statendam, an exclusive program that will provide guests with even more revolutionary benefits and amenities. Club Orange guests will be able to dine in the private Club Orange restaurant (replacing the Culinary Arts Center onboard the first two ships, dedicated section in dining room on others), featuring exclusive dishes. Among the other incredible amenities include an enhanced breakfast room service menu with more premium options, priority service for embarkation, disembarkation, tendering, and specialty restaurant reservations, and a private shore excursion hotline. Guests booked in Neptune and Pinnacle Suites will automatically be eligible for Club Orange benefits. Guests booked in non-suites can receive these benefits for an additional fee per person, per day.

On March 31, 2016 Holland America Line took delivery of ms Koningsdam, offering making it the first Pinnacle-class ship in the fleet. The ship then made its way to Civitavecchia, Italy for its premiere voyage that departed on April 8, 2016. Koningsdam’s official naming ceremony took place in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, on May 20, 2016. This ship is the largest ship ever in the Holland America Line fleet, ushering in a new (“Pinnacle”) class of ships. A sister ship to ms Koningsdam is expected to debut in November 2018, and a third Pinnacle-class ship has been commissioned for delivery in 2021.

As part of a $300-million brand enhancement, in November 2015 Holland America Line announced a number of planned enhancements to Suite category staterooms onboard Signature-, Vista and R-class ships. Beginning with ms Eurodam in December 2015 and ms Oosterdam in April 2016, these updates will be rolled out through the rest of the fleet over the course of scheduled dry docks. Onboard refreshments include updated main living areas, electronic upgrades, interior updates to bathrooms and the addition of more premium suite amenities, such as an in-suite coffee and espresso machine and binoculars for use during the voyage.

Holland America said goodbye to ms Statendam and ms Ryndam in November of 2015.

An exclusive agreement has been reached between the renowned Le Cirque restaurant and Holland America Line as “An Evening at Le Cirque” will be offered in the Pinnacle Grill of each of the fleet’s ships. For at least one night on just about every Holland America cruise, the Pinnacle Grill will become a Le Cirque-like restaurant. On such evenings, the menu, wine selections, table decorations and other aspects of the restaurant will be altered to create an authentic Le Cirque dining experience. Reservations for this sure to be popular dining option are available at an additional charge. Special demonstrations will take place in each ship’s Culinary Arts Center, giving guests the opportunity to learn how to cook a Le Cirque dish or two.

In October 2014, Holland America Line announced the continuation of its overwhelmingly popular “Dancing with the Stars: At Sea” program for 2015-2016. The collaboration brings the celebrities of ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars” to all of the premium ships in the Holland America fleet, culminating with the annual Champions Cruise competition onboard the ms Nieuw Amsterdam in January 2016. This program features six special “Dancing with the Stars: At Sea” theme cruises, as well as an ongoing dance competition for guests across all sailings departing through November 24, 2015. Guests can experience complimentary dance lessons with the ship’s dance pros and enter the competition for an opportunity to represent their ship on the Champions Cruise.
