♦ Edmonton Valley Zoo

Whether your cruise from Edmonton is with family or friends, the Edmonton Valley Zoo is a great way to spend the day in the city. Unlike most zoos, this one is smaller and more intimate, allowing for a more unique experience with the animals. There are over 350 animals in this zoo from all over the world. Some of the animals you can see include frogs, owls, hawks, hedgehogs, slothes, armadillos, tortoises, snakes, and more! That doesn’t even scratch the many kinds of animals you can see here. Edmonton Valley Zoo is open during the summer and charges a small admission fee, but it is very much worth it!

♦ John Walter Museum

If you are fascinated by local history, then you might consider checking out the John Walter Museum before or after your cruise from Edmonton. Located within Kinsmen Park, this museum brings you through the life of John Walter, a Canadian businessman who played a large role in Edmonton’s trade development. This museum offers self-guided tours and guided tours (sometimes part of larger local events). The park itself contains a great number of trails (for walking and biking), picnic tables, a playground, and even an outdoor pool. It is a wonderful way to spend time in the city before heading for the Northwest Passage.

♦ John Janzen Nature Centre

If you can’t get enough of nature, consider stopping by this nature center before or after your cruise from Edmonton. This center features plenty of nature trails where you can admire local flora or get up close with the Saskatchewan River. There are also numerous exhibits (that change seasonally), where you can learn about things such as bees, pond creatures, and the center’s history. There is also an outdoors compost exhibit, and an indoor play space for children.
