When sailing aboard a Hurtigruten Expeditions cruise, you can experience breathtaking fjords and mountains, enchanting cities, natural wonders, and more in a once-in-a-lifetime voyage you won’t soon forget. Cruising year-round, Hurtigruten Expeditions, also known as HX, offers a variety of different specialty and exploration-style cruising itineraries. With their fleet of six small ships, Hurtigruten Expeditions sails from 29 ports of call on itineraries ranging between 3- and 25-night Norwegian coastal voyages, including expedition cruises in Spitsbergen (in the Arctic), Greenland and Antarctica. There are multiple short port-to-port variations to choose from on Hurtigruten Expeditions’ Norwegian coastal voyage itinerary.
Hurtigruten Expeditions is able to offer itineraries in the calm and sheltered waterways of Norway’s shores, that larger ships simply cannot reach, thanks to the intimate size of their ships (ranging from 2,191 to 16,151-tons). This results in closer encounters with landscape and wildlife, as well as rare ports of call. On itineraries focused in the Arctic, you may have the opportunity to see brown bears, penguins, seals, humpback whales, sea lions, native birds, llamas, foxes, elephant seals, and albatrosses first-hand, as well as glaciers, tundras, mountains, national parks and icebergs. Hurtrigruten Expeditions also offers itineraries and voyages to the Caribbean, Europe, Portugal, North America, and more. Onboard a Hurtigruten Expeditions cruise ship, their Expedition Team gives informative lectures about the areas being visited, and guests are able to relax, unwind and enjoy the breathtaking scenery.
Three hearty meals are offered per day during a Hurtigruten Expeditions cruise, consisting of traditional Norwegian and continental fare. Breakfast and lunch are in an open-seating format and are buffet-style. Evening meals have assigned seating, with a sit-down waiter service and set menu. At times, lunch can be assigned if the ship is busy. If you’d like to snack between meals, there’s a 24-hour cafeteria as well.
The onboard atmosphere is always relaxed and informal during a Hurtigruten Expeditions voyage, with a non-regimented environment. Hurtigruten Expeditions is an alternative to a traditional cruise, as each voyage vessel is a unique combination of a cruise ship and working ship, carrying local passengers and cargo between ports. However, the working aspect of the ship is completely seamless to their cruise vacation guests. While some Hurtigruten Expeditions cruises may feature a pianist or local singer onboard the ship, the real entertainment is the destination being visited. Travelers that like to visit less “touristy” ports of call and enjoy an active, destination-immersed vacation, are a great fit for a Hurtigruten Expeditions voyage.
