In November 2019, MSC Grandiosa launched as the first of MSC's new Meraviglia Plus class ships. Grandiosa is a more environmentally-sound ship sailing with a fine art museum at sea and MSC's Cirque du Soleil at Sea concept. Sister ship MS Virtuosa later made its maiden voyage in 2021, joining Grandiosa as the largest vessels in MSC's fleet.
MSC Cruises announced the name of its second Meraviglia-generation ship, MSC Bellissima. The announcement was made on the same day that sister ship MSC Meraviglia was officially floated out at STX France’s shipyard in Saint Nazaire, where the construction of both ships are contracted. MSC Bellissima entered service in Spring 2019, featuring an expanded main promenade and much more bolstered spaces and amenities.
MSC Seaview, the sibling ship to MSC Seaside, entered service in June 2018, Seaview’s inaugural season featured ports throughout the Mediterranean.
On April 6, 2016, MSC Cruises signed a letter of intent with STX France for the delivery of up to four new LNG-powered cruise ships, in addition to two previously contracted Meraviglia-Plus class ships. These vessels will be based on an advanced, next-generation prototype that will be known as the “World Class” of MSC’s fleet. This new prototype will feature many innovative elements, including a futuristically-conceived design focused on maximizing the open-air space available to guests, while bringing the latest in technology and entertainment with the lowest impact on the environment. Aimed for all seasons and all regions, the four new ships will be delivered in 2022, 2024, 2025, and 2026. They will feature a GRT of over 200,000 tons, more than 2,700 staterooms and a 5,400-guest capacity.
MSC Seaside debuted in December of 2017, sailing year-round from Miami to the Caribbean. This state-of-the-art ship will be the largest ever built by renowned shipyard Fincantieri. Unique features will include: a waterfront promenade with public spaces, shops, and restaurants; an enhanced MSC Yacht Club; and panoramic elevators with sea views. MSC Seaside will have one of the largest and most interactive aqua parks at sea, featuring two decks of activities (including an adventure trail and four slides). MSC Seaside will be the first ship with Slideboarding technology, combining a slide and interactive game. A sister ship, MSC Seaview, will be delivered in June 2018, with MSC having an option on a third Seaside class ship to be delivered in 2021.
During 2014, MSC Cruises enlarged MSC Armonia, the first of four ships in the line’s fleet to undergo what they’re calling the Renaissance Program (which will cost them an estimated $273 million). This program enlarges and enhances MSC Armonia, MSC Lirica, MSC Sinfonia and MSC Opera, giving them all an array of new improvements and amenities and adding up to nearly 200 new staterooms per ship.
