What’s New for Paul Gauguin Cruises?

In August 2019, Ponant announced plans to acquire Paul Gauguin Cruises. The two cruise lines are expected to continue separate operations.

In 2017, Paul Gauguin Cruises partnered with the Wildlife Conservation Society to bring you two enrichment programs, the Wildlife Discovery Series and the Stewards of Nature, on select sailings. The Wildlife Discovery Series program is included in your cruise fare, and brings expert scientists, oceanographers and conservationists onboard to teach you about marine wildlife and its habitats. The  An Owner’s Suite aboard <i>m/s Paul Gauguin</i> Stewards of Nature program is a hands-on curriculum aimed at children (ages 7 to 17), to learn about nature and the local environment, for an additional fee on summer and holiday sailings.

m/s Paul Gauguin went into drydock in May 2017 to undergo routine maintenance to provide you with the best sailing experience possible. Some of the updates included the upkeep of the ship’s stabilizers and thrusters, enhancements to its propulsion system, hull painting, enhancements to fan-room equipment and the replacement of the steel around the ship. The public areas and all suites and staterooms were also renovated with new carpeting and flooring, reupholstered furniture, new wallpaper and teak wood replacement.

In June 2015, Paul Gauguin Cruises announced the sale of Tere Moana, leaving the m/s Paul Gauguin as the only ship in its fleet.

In 2012, the readers of Conde Nast Traveler Magazine voted m/s Paul Gauguin as being one of the “Top 20 Small Cruise Ships.” The ship also underwent a $7 million renovation that brought on refreshed décor, new flooring and carpeting, new furniture and new wall panels as well as improvements to the furnishings and lighting in the ship’s dining venues. The refurbishment also included a new built-in banquette to the onboard casino as well as an expansion to the gaming area.
