Messina is a great departure port for first-time and experienced cruisers alike. Being a smaller Italian city, it is appealing to first-timers because of its ease of exploration. Veteran cruisers who have already experienced Messina can simply jump off and head to other parts of Sicily they have yet to discover. Either way, Messina is filled with casual and upscale Sicilian restaurants, shops (especially for wine), and nearby beaches. For those taking a cruise that departs from or ends in Messina, the breathtaking scenery alone is enough to spend some time in Messina before or after your cruise.
