These are just a few of the more popular tourist attractions in Honolulu, along with a brief description:
♦ Pearl Harbor
A cruise from Hawaii just wouldn't be complete without a visit to Pearl Harbor. This United States Navy base, (headquarters of the U.S. Pacific fleet), was made famous by the World War II attacks by Japan (in 1941). Today, this base is recognized as a National Historic Landmark and is one of the most visited tourist destinations in Hawaii. Within this area are other historic landmarks, including the following former naval battleships: USS Arizona (a sunken battleship, which has a memorial), USS Bowfin (which is now a museum) and USS Utah (another sunken battleship, which has a memorial on Ford Island in Pearl Harbor).
♦ Diamond Head
The 761-foot-high Diamond Head is one of the world's most famous volcanic craters. Many cruises offer Diamond Head as a shore excursion, allowing you to experience this interesting wonder for yourself. It is just a 45-minute hike to the top, where you can take in an amazing view of Oahu.
♦ Waikiki
If you're looking for a great beach to visit while on a cruise from Honolulu, certainly consider Waikiki Beach, one of the most famous beaches in the world. This beach can get quite crowded at times, but is truly beautiful. Just imagine walking along a beach, under the tropical sun, with an amazing view of Diamond Head in front of you! Waikiki Beach is located right by a few great hotels, and is where surfing competitions and various outdoor performances (such as hula dancing) take place.
