These are just a few of the more popular tourist attractions in Qingdao, along with a brief description:
♦ May Fourth Square
Located in the heart of Qingdao’s central business district, this public city square is within close proximity to the water and is a great starting point for exploring the city. The main highlight of this square is the May Wind Sculpture, which nods to the historic uproar caused by the May 4th Movement (which this square is named for). If you visit by night, you can enjoy the special treat of seeing the square and the city skyline all lit up!
♦ Tsingtao Brewery Museum
As Qingdao is famous for its beer, it only makes sense that that the Tsingtao Brewery Museum is one of the city’s most popular tourist attractions. The museum is built on the former site of the Tsingtao Brewery Company. During your visit, you can learn more about the city’s beer manufacturing industry (which was inspired by German influences), including the history of Tsingtao beer. During your tour, you can enjoy a few samples of draft beer and snacks. As an added bonus, you can grab a bite to eat at one of the many restaurants that are located near this museum.
♦ Huashi Building
History buffs are certain to appreciate Qingdao’s Huashi Building, one of the city’s most famous landmark buildings. Built in a Gothic style of architecture with Roman and Greek accents, the Huashi Building is reminiscent of a European castle. Originally home to a Russian aristocrat, the building was eventually sold to British hands before serving as a reception center. For a small fee, you can tour the inside of this building (there are some great views of the ocean from the top floor), as well as enjoy its lush garden.
