Bremerhaven is a contemporary coastal port city in Germany, located about a 1 hour and 50 minute drive from Hamburg. The German Maritime Museum is one of the most top-rated attractions in Bremerhaven. If you are interested in navigation and seafaring topics, then this museum is your dream come true! You can browse informative exhibits that will teach you about marine life, the rapidly-changing environment and more. View model ships, navigation charts, photographs, communication devices, and many other interesting artifacts! This museum also features three floating historic vessels (a four-masted ship, a salvage tug, and a steamer). If you love history, a visit to this museum is a must! Hours of operation are Tuesday through Sunday, 10AM to 6PM (subject to change).

The Bremerhaven Zoo is another highly-rated attraction in this fabulous port city. It’s also a wonderful activity for families who are traveling with young children, who are certain to be delighted at all of the animals. The majority of animals at this zoo are native to water or polar conditions, such as polar bears, sea lions, harbor seals, South African fur seals, Humboldt penguins, and birds. Another popular museum is the German Emigration Center. This is where you can discover all there is to know about 300 years’ worth of immigration and emigration history! Since there are many interactive exhibits, this museum puts you right in the shoes of those who once experienced to emigration process in real life. You can experience the entire emigration process from boarding a Transatlantic ship to experiencing the challenges and difficulties of having to begin a new life. There is also a collection of immigration record archives, where you can do a little bit of research on your own, if you’d like. The German Emigration Center is open daily from 10AM to 5PM (subject to change).
