Overview
Myanmar River Cruises
Few vacations are able to offer such intimacy as Myanmar River cruises. A Myanmar River cruise is a fascinating vacation experience to little-known destinations that have only recently been open to cruisers. Myanmar River cruise ships go deep into the heart of Asia where larger cruise ships simply cannot reach. The one-of-a-kind, intimate atmosphere on board these ships make it much more possible to enjoy visiting traditional Asian river villages. Plus, the cruise lines that offer Myanmar river cruises have fabulous, regionally-inspired cuisine, matched perfectly by an attentive and well-trained staff.
Myanmar River cruises will transport you along the Irrawaddy River, which flows through Myanmar (also known as Burma). You can experience ports such as Bagan, Bhamo, Katha, Kyun Daw, Mandalay, and Yangon as you’ve never dreamed you could! Until recently, travel to Myanmar was difficult due to unstable politics and tourism restrictions. Now, more and more travelers are adding it to their bucket list as the political climate changes and the tourism infrastructure grows.
Navigating the Irrawaddy River is nothing comparable to a typical European river cruise. You’ll get a true taste of local Asian life as you float past red brick temples, golden pagodas, and bustling markets. Pay your respects at the Schwezigon Pagoda shrine. Take your first ride in an ox-cart. Experience sunrises and sunsets at some of the world’s most beautiful temples. Visit local farms and interact with villagers. Watch local artisans at work. The possibilities of what you can do on a Myanmar River cruise are endless! Typical cruises are usually 3- to 4-nights in length although some cruise lines offer 7+ night itineraries. It is also possible add on pre- and post-cruise tours to see even more of Myanmar and its surrounding area.
