Elbe River Vacations

Few vacations are able to offer such intimacy as Elbe River cruises. An Elbe River Cruise is a truly remarkable (and popular) vacation experience. A major advantage of taking an Elbe River Cruise is that the River Cruise ships are able to go deep into the heart of Europe, where larger cruise ships simply cannot reach. Take part in the one-of-a-kind, intimate atmosphere on board these ships, as you visit the river towns and locations that would be impossible to enjoy as much any other way. Plus, the cruise lines that offer River cruises have fabulous, regionally-inspired cuisine, matched perfectly by an attentive and well-trained staff.

There are many destinations in which you can enjoy an Elbe River Cruise. You can experience places like Prague, Hamburg, Dresden, Berlin, and Potsdam as you’ve never dreamed you could! The Elbe River is one of Germany’s main waterways, making it easier than ever to soak in an exciting mixture of culture and scenery. As you navigate the Elbe’s breathtaking river banks, you’ll discover riverside villages, capital cities, castles and cathedrals, stunning architecture, and more. An Elbe River Cruise is a wonderful way of experiencing all that Germany and the Czech Republic have to offer. A typical Elbe River Cruise itinerary spans from 6 to 8 nights with an embarkation in Berlin.

American Discount Vacations is proud to offer the best deals possible on all Elbe River cruises booked with us. Backed by our "Low Price Guarantee," and powered by our team of expert travel agents, we're sure to exceed your expectations when booking your next Elbe River cruise!

Highlighted Elbe River Cruise Attractions

The following are just a few of the many things to do while sailing along the Elbe River:

City of Prague

This legendary capital city is one of the biggest highlights of an Elbe River Cruise! Prague’s “Old Town” is one of the oldest yet most breathtaking neighborhoods in Czech Republic. Old Town Square (once used as a local marketplace) is one of the best places to admire multiple styles of architecture with accents of renaissance, gothic, art nouveau, and baroque influences. Some of the more popular tourist attractions in Prague include the Powder Tower (where you can climb 186 steps to get some amazing city views and also learn about the tower’s history), the Astronomical Clock at Old Town Hall, and the Church of Our Lady Before Tyn (standing since the 14th century). If you’re visiting Prague in December, you might even get to experience Old Town Square’s festive Christmas market!

Saxon Switzerland National Park

The only rock national park in Germany, Saxon Switzerland provides some of the most breathtaking views in Europe and is a must-visit for those who are passionate about rock-climbing. When visiting this park, you can challenge yourself to climbing one of its 700 summits. If you are not a fan of heights, there are also plenty of trails that you can enjoy walking or biking on. Along the way, keep your eyes peeled for local wildlife, such as hawks, eagles, otters, and kingfishers. Don’t forget to check out the famous Bastei Bridge while you’re there – it provides some of the most stunning vantage points in the park!

Sanssouci Palace

Located in Potsdam, Sanssouci Palace is another must-visit site in Park Sanssouci, which is very accessible from the Elbe River. The park itself has over 40 miles of walking paths among beautiful gardens and sculptures. The palace is the former home of Frederick the Great. Inside the palace, you can see a number of original oil paintings as well as the former ruler’s large book collection.

River Cruise Lines

Becoming more and more popular, a river cruise is an immerse and destination-focused vacation experience, on a small and luxurious vessel.

River cruises sail through the inland waterways of some of the world's most interesting vacation destinations (i.e. Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and North America), and provide their guests with a greater opportunity to spend time visiting more unique ports of call than a traditional cruise typically would.

Because the destination is the star of a river cruise, (typically guided) shore excursions are included at no additional charge by many River cruise lines. There are usually many interesting lectures given during the cruise, by experts on the history and culture of the region being visited.

Among the famous rivers that one may take a river cruise on are the Rhine, Mississippi, Seine, Danube, Mekong, Nile, Yangtze, Amazon and Douro.
