As part of Globus family of brands Lighthouse Project, your visit contributes to the Trust’s mission.Visit the Karen Blixen Museum, dedicated to the Danish baroness and author of the 1937 autobiography Out of Africa (later, an Academy Award winning film) illustrating her time living and operating a coffee farm in Kenya. After lunch at the gardens, a visit to the Giraffe Centre is followed by free time this evening. LOCAL FAVORITEWILDLIFE WORRIORS Discover the world’s most successful rescue and rehabilitation program for orphaned elephants and rhinos at the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust. Orphans, rescued from threats such as poaching and habitat loss, are brought to the Nairobi Nursery for round-the-clock care from dedicated Keepers, who help them heal from grief and trauma. As the animals recover, they move to reintegration centers like Ithumba, where they learn vital survival skills and gradually reconnect with wild herds. Many eventually return to the wild, and the project has even welcomed 92 babies born to former orphans now thriving in their natural habitat. Shaba Special Drive north out of the city to Shaba National Reserve, home to the “Special 5,” a collection of unique animals, including Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, Somali ostrich, beisa oryx, and gerenuk. Start your safari adventure with an afternoon game drive. Enjoy a 2-night stay at the Sarova Shaba Game Lodge, nestled within the tranquail oasis of the National Reserve. The Ewaso Ng’iro River borders the reserve, providing a year-round water supply. These two factors make for a great game viewing experience! Visit a Samburu Village to learn about their customs, attire, dance, and daily life. The Samburu are closely related to the Maasai but have distinct customs, language, and dress. Sundowner drinks in the bush are served prior to returning to your lodge for dinner. En route, stop at Nanyuki Spinners and Weavers, a project aimed at building sustainable livelihoods for local women through social and economic activities.
