Overview
Le Commandant Charcot
The PONANT fleet welcomed another great addition, Le Commandant Charcot. This cruise ship is the only luxurious icebreaker in the world powered by liquefied natural gas. She invites guests for unforgettable polar expedition cruises to the Arctic and the continent of Antarctica.
The 492-foot-long vessel is also the first passenger ship in the world to feature a Polar Class 2 hull. Aboard Le Commandant Charcot, guests can safely visit the far corners of the world with respect for local nature.
Polar Expeditions
The company added a new polar exploration ship to its fleet on September 28, 2021. This well-designed vessel has in mind all safety standards, comfort traveling, respect for the environment, and thrill for exploration of the most incredible areas of the Antarctic and the Arctic.
In 2023 and 2024, Le Commandant Charcot offers itineraries to popular, isolated, and distant regions of Antarctica and the Arctic. Thanks to her PC2 hull, the polar exploration ship can sail between the ice sheets. Also, the vessel takes her guests to Nothern Europe in May 2023.
The cruise ship has modern research equipment, incredible observation platforms, and facilities to study the polar ecosystems. Besides, she offers luxurious accommodations and great relaxation spots on her decks for travelers who love to explore and analyze wildlife in comfort.
PONANT raised the bar for safety on the water and introduced new safety & rescue equipment aboard Le Commandant Charcot:
Group survival kit;
Ice Cube;
Survival suits;
Floating polar shelters.
