What's New for Viking River Cruises?

In March 2019, Viking River Cruises christened 7 new ships: Viking Einar, Viking Sigrun, Viking Vali, Viking Tir, Viking Sigyn, Viking Ullur, and Viking Helgrim. Viking President Torstein Hagen announced the deliverance of two new expedition ships, which are scheduled to debut in 2021 and 2022.

During 2016, Viking River Cruises welcomed the latest additions to its fleet with the christening of six new Viking Longships (Viking Rolf, Viking Kadlin, Viking Alruna, Viking Egil, Viking Vilhjalm, and Viking Tialfi). Of the six new Longships, four are deployed on Viking’s most popular itineraries on the Rhine, Main and Danube Rivers; the remaining two sail the Seine River on Viking’s Paris and the Heart of Normandy itinerary. Later in the year, Viking debuted a seventh new river ship for 2016, Viking Osfrid, which is inspired by the Longships design and specifically built for the Douro River, bringing the company’s total number of ships in Portugal to three.

Viking River Cruises continued its extensive fleet-wide expansion in 2014. In a multi-phased event that took place over 24 hours, the company christened 16 of its award-winning Viking Longships. The first-of-its kind ceremony was subsequently certified by a Guinness World Records™ adjudicator as 'The Most Ships Inaugurated in One Day by One Company.' Viking already held the previous record, having christened 10 new ships in one day in 2013.

A total of 11 new ships debuted for Viking River Cruises during 2013: Viking Bragi, Viking Skadi, Viking Tor, MS Vienna, Viking Var, Viking Forseti, Viking Rinda, Viking Jarl, Viking Atla, Viking Baldur, and Viking Magni.
