River Cruise Lines

Becoming more and more popular, a river cruise is an immerse and destination-focused vacation experience, on a small and luxurious vessel.

River cruises sail through the inland waterways of some of the world's most interesting vacation destinations (i.e. Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and North America), and provide their guests with a greater opportunity to spend time visiting more unique ports of call than a traditional cruise typically would.

Because the destination is the star of a river cruise, (typically guided) shore excursions are included at no additional charge by many River cruise lines. There are usually many interesting lectures given during the cruise, by experts on the history and culture of the region being visited.

Among the famous rivers that one may take a river cruise on are the Rhine, Mississippi, Seine, Danube, Mekong, Nile, Yangtze, Amazon and Douro.

Things to do near Delhi

These are just a few of the more popular tourist attractions in Delhi, along with a brief description:

♦ Red Fort

Once a historic fort that was home to the Mughal Emperors, the Red Fort is now one of the most popular museums in Delhi. This 17th-century stronghold is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and possesses a rich history with ties to the Mughals and British. Covering over 250 acres of land alongside the Yamuna River in Old Delhi, you will discover plenty to do and see at this landmark. Some of the original buildings remain and there are also a few markets and museums that provide a deeper look into Indian history. While you can explore the grounds on your own, your best bet is to take a guided tour so you can learn the story behind this magnificent structure.

♦ Qutub Minar

Another UNESCO World Heritage Site, Qutub Minar is a 240-foot tower that is part of the Qutb Complex (a group of monuments and buildings that are reminiscent of historical rule). Having incurred damage from lightning strikes and earthquakes, the tower has been built and rebuilt under many architectural influences (which you can learn about during your visit). While visiting the Qutub Minar, you can also check out several other monuments in the immediate area, as well as enjoy the area’s luscious greenery. Many have rated this attraction as being good for families.

♦ Humayun’s Tomb

Humayun’s Tomb is a third UNESCO World Heritage Site that is worth visiting in Delhi. Built in 1570, this tomb contains the final resting place of Mughal Emperor Humayun, as well as over 100 Mughal family members. A grand piece of architecture, it is highly unlikely that you’ll ever experience a tomb like this one! Surrounded by beautiful gardens and scenic greenery, the area is a photographer’s dream. If you’re fascinated by history and culture, definitely make time to stop at this incredible wonder!
