Situated on the southeast coast of Cyprus, Larnaca is a delightful destination from which to take your next cruise. There are also several cruises that don't start in Larnaca, but do include it as a port of call within their itinerary. Whether you’re looking for a traditional beach day or craving to learn more about the city’s historic roots, you’ll get to enjoy all that and more. Larnaca is filled with iconic structures, museums, historic sites, archaeological sites (the city was built on the ruins of an ancient city), castles, and of course, beaches. While spending time in the city, you can also discover some delicious (and authentic) Greek cuisine. Seafood is also another staple of Larnaca, and there are many cafes where you can grab a coffee and pastry that you can take down to the water and enjoy. With so many wonderful things to see and do, you might consider spending additional time in the city to ensure you can make the most of your visit.
Depending on which cruise line you book with, cruises from Larnaca tend to range from 6- to 11-nights in length. A great time to visit Larnaca is during April and May, while the weather is on the more mild side.

Becoming more and more popular, a river cruise is an immerse and destination-focused vacation experience, on a small and luxurious vessel.
River cruises sail through the inland waterways of some of the world's most interesting vacation destinations (i.e. Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and North America), and provide their guests with a greater opportunity to spend time visiting more unique ports of call than a traditional cruise typically would.
Because the destination is the star of a river cruise, (typically guided) shore excursions are included at no additional charge by many River cruise lines. There are usually many interesting lectures given during the cruise, by experts on the history and culture of the region being visited.
Among the famous rivers that one may take a river cruise on are the Rhine, Mississippi, Seine, Danube, Mekong, Nile, Yangtze, Amazon and Douro.
These are just a few of the more popular tourist attractions in Larnaca, along with a brief description:
♦ Church of Saint Lazarus
History buffs certainly don’t want to miss the chance to visit the Church of Saint Lazarus. Not only is this 9th century church one of the most breathtaking churches in Cyprus, it’s also an excellent opportunity to dig deeper into the past. There is even a small cemetery located behind the church which contains the resting spots of residents from the Ottoman era. The interior of this church contains gold accents and is nothing short of beautiful. The tomb of Lazarus is also located inside of the church’s crypt.
♦ Hala Sultan Tekke
Another popular cultural attraction is none other than the Hala Sultan Tekke. This Muslin shrine is located near Larnaca’s Salt Lake (worth a visit on its own), and pays homage to Umm Haram, the wife of a companion to the prophet Muhammed. During your visit, you will discover a mosque, mausoleum, and cemetery. Plus, the ground contains some beautiful gardens, and art enthusiasts will love admiring the architecture. Proper attire is required, as this is a religious site. If you’re lucky, you might be able to catch a glimpse of a flamingo from the Salt Lake!
♦ Kastella Beach
You simply cannot visit Larnaca without spending some time at one of its beautiful beaches! One of the most highly-rated beaches is Kastella Beach, a popular family beach with clean, shallow waters. Plus, the waters at this beach tend to be very warm, making swimming and other activities more enjoyable. There are also a few restaurants located nearby, so you don’t have to wander far when it comes time to eat. What could be better than a day at the beach with the salt water filling your nose and the warm soft sand between your toes?
