♦ Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum

A must-stop for anyone spending time in Hanoi is the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum. History buffs are likely to be especially interested in this sight, as it is the final resting place of President Ho Chi Minh (who also led the Vietnamese Revolutionary War). Inside, you can pay respects to the president’s preserved body, which is guarded around the clock. This is also a great opportunity to admire the building’s exterior Vietnamese-influenced architecture. There are also a few gardens on the grounds where you can appreciate local flora and fauna. Afterward, visit the Ho Chi Minh Museum (located right next door) where you can learn more about President Ho Chi Minh’s life and influence.

♦ Temples & Pagodas

As Hanoi has many roots in culture and religion, it’s no surprise that the city is filled with many shrines, temples, and pagodas. Among the most popular of these sights include One Pillar Pagoda (a historic Buddhist temple with relaxing grounds), Temple of the Jade Mountain (focused around Vietnamese folklore and legend), Tran Quoc Pagoda (Buddhist temple on an island), and Quan Thanh Temple (an 11th century temple). The Temple of Literature (a complex of temples) is also another popular sight in Hanoi! Plus, many of these temples and shrines are located within close proximity of one another, so you can easily hit them all in one day.

Located in the center of the city, Dong Xuan Market one of Hanoi’s largest covered three-story markets that shouldn’t be missed! You can browse vendors for all sorts of goods, including clothes, food, bags, shoes, fresh flowers, jewelry and more. As many locals also do their shopping here, it’s a great place to quickly immerse yourself among the locals and get a taste of their lifestyle.
