♦ Kiellinie

Kiellinie is a waterfront promenade that runs to the west of Kiel Fjord from the navy base. This scenic walkway is a great place to take a walk and just absorb everything the Kiel’s waterfront has to offer. During Kiel Week in June (a huge sailing event), you can enjoy live music and performances as many people gather to watch the local boat races. Kiellinie offers stunning views of the waterside that you do not want to miss! There are also a few cafes, boathouses, and a research center along this promenade, which you can explore during your visit.

♦ U-Boat Museum/German Submarine U-995

If you have never toured the inside of a submarine, you’ll have your chance before or after your cruise from Kiel! Commissioned in 1943 and decommissioned in 1945, this submarine was damaged during war and changed ownership several times before becoming a museum in the 1970s. For a small fee, you can board this vessel and explore it from end to end, touring the engine room, bunks, command center, and more. Little has changed since its construction, so it is truly like stepping back in time.

♦ Naval Memorial

Located in close proximity to German Submarine U-995, you cannot miss this towering landmark (literally!). Jutting over 230 feet into the sky, you can easily spot this World War I memorial from the Kiellinie, which is miles away. Inside, you can climb to the top for stunning 360-degree views, and learn a little more about the war and its significance at the small museum, which houses some really interesting artifacts.
