What’s New for Disney Cruise Line?

Disney recently announced that it has increased the number of upcoming ships from two to three, revealing that these ships will debut in 2021, 2022 and 2023. All three ships are expected to maintain Disney’s traditional homage to classical ocean cruising while offering exciting new features, more technology, and even more Disney elements than ever before! Each ship is slated to weigh in at 140,000-gross tons, which will make them the largest ships in the fleet, surpassing Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy. They will also be powered by liquefied

natural gas, one of the cleanest fuels in the world.

Disney Wonder entered a one-month dry dock in September 2016. Enhancements included the addition of Marvel Super Hero Academy, a brand-new stage show based on Disney’s smash hit “Frozen,” dining venues such as Tiana’s Place Restaurant and Cheers English Pub, and even more!

In March 2016, Disney announced plans for the construction of two additional cruise ships. Each is planned to be approximately 135,000 gross tons and boast 1,250 guest staterooms, these ships will not only be the newest additions to Disney’s fleet, but their largest as well. The ships are scheduled to be completed in 2021 and 2022, respectively.

After a 2013 refurbishment, Disney Magic received a thorough face lift, including a new three-story water slide. This ship became Disney’s first vessel to feature experiences with Marvel characters, like Marvel’s Avengers Academy (as Marvel is now a part of the Walt Disney Company family).

In very exciting news, Disney Cruise Line started offering cruises from New York, with departures available since May 25, 2012. Disney Magic did 8-night Bahamas & Florida cruises, 5-night Canada & New England cruises, as well as a few 2-night Cruises to Nowhere. Starting on September 22, 2012, Disney Magic began doing a total of twelve 7-night cruises from Galveston, Texas to the Western Caribbean. Disney Fantasy, sister ship to Disney Dream, debuted in April of 2012; at 128,000-tons, this ship is substantially larger than the already large (83,000 tons each) Disney ships that were previously the sole members of the fleet (Disney Magic and Disney Wonder). In all, this expansion of Disney’s fleet more than doubled their overall passenger capacity. These new ships are purposely built with families in mind, featuring specially designed areas and activities for each member of the family to allow for both quality time together and wonderful individual experiences. The focus is to provide a setting where families can reconnect, adults can recharge and kids can immerse themselves in worlds only Disney can create.
