The capital of the Turks and Caicos Islands, Grand Turk is a charming small town with vast historical links. Some theories suggest that Christopher Columbus first made landfall at Grand Turk when trekking to the New World. John Glenn also returned to this island after becoming the first person to orbit the Earth in 1962. Grand Turk offers all the appeal of a cozy Caribbean cruise port with a plethora of public beaches and other fascinating points of interest.

These are just a few of the more popular tourist attractions in Grand Turk, along with a brief description:
♦ Governor’s Beach
There are many beautiful beaches in Grand Turk that are free to the public. The most popular among them is Governor Beach. With soft white sand and pristine clear waters, this tropical haven is a great place to spend the day. If lounging isn’t your idea of fun, go snorkeling to get a closer look at the fish and coral.
♦ Grand Turk Lighthouse
Made in 1852, Grand Turk’s only lighthouse is a significant landmark. The lighthouse is no longer in use, but it’s still worth checking out the 60-foot protected historic site and its surrounding scenic views. You can also explore the U.S. Navy NAVFAC 104 base.
♦ National Museum
Located in Cockburn Town, this 30-year-old museum is one of the oldest buildings in Grand Turk. Exhibits focus on artifacts recovered from excavating the Molasses Reef Wreck. There’s plenty of more rich Turk & Caicos history to uncover at the National Museum. This includes exhibits regarding astronaut John Glenn, who landed in Grand Turk after becoming the third American to go to space and the first to orbit the earth.
