Small, but comfortable, ships are commonplace here, with anywhere from basic to very luxurious public spaces, cuisine, and accommodations (depending on the cruise line and ship).
Sailing Yachts, sail-assisted motor ships, offer a really unique vacation experience. Things to do near Syracuse, Sicily
These are just a few of the more popular tourist attractions in Syracuse, along with a brief description:
♦ Neapolis
Syracuse is home to Neapolis Archaeological Park, one of the most historically significant archaeological sites in the world. In this park, you will discover the remains of a 5th century Greek Theatre (which is still in use today), Roman Amphitheater, and a limestone quarry where you can admire some aromatic lemon and orange trees. Neapolis is also home to the Ear of Dionysius (see below) and some former burial chambers. Guided tours are available so you can make the most of your trip! If you already have a good understanding of Greek and Roman history, you can also opt to explore on your own.
♦ Ear of Dionysius
Located within Neapolis Archaeological Park, the Ear of Dionysius is an incredible limestone cave famous for its incredible acoustics that travel as high up as 72 feet! The cave once served as a prison for Greek Tyrant Dionysius I, who took advantage of the cave’s acoustics to spy on his prisoners. When you visit, keep your ears open to hear its incredible echo. As the Ear of Dionysius is part of an archaeological park, you can also combine your visit by checking out some of the other ruins on the site.

For even more ancient Greek history, consider paying a visit to the Temple of Apollo ruins. Among the ruins you can admire include columns, walls, archways, and more. These well-preserved ruins provide your imagination with an idea of what life in Syracuse was once like, as well as what the original temple was once like. Plus, these ruins are located right in the city near a number of restaurants, hotels, and a few other attractions, so you can easily plan a visit to this site during your stay.
