In July 2018, Norwegian announced enhancements to its 2019 and 2020 itineraries to offer you more opportunities to travel to popular destinations, including Alaska, Mexican Riviera, Panama Canal, Europe, and Australia. Norwegian Spirit is scheduled to begin serving the Chinese cruise market in 2020 as well.
Norwegian also announced the confirmation of orders for two new Leonardo Class ships, scheduled to be delivered by 2026 and 2027. These 140,000-gross-ton ships will carry roughly 3,300 passengers each, with their designs based on NCL’s latest Breakaway-Plus class ships (though smaller in scale). The design for this new class of ship will focus on energy efficiency, optimizing fuel consumption and reducing the impact on the environment.
Norwegian celebrated the steel cutting ceremony for their fourth upcoming Breakaway Plus Class ship, Norwegian Encore, on January 31, 2018. Scheduled to float out in October 2019, Norwegian Encore is scheduled to homeport in Miami for the Fall 2019 season.
Norwegian Sky is the first ship in the fleet to offer four-day voyages, which will include overnight calls in Havana. Beginning in May 2018, Norwegian Sun began offering four-night cruises to Key West, in addition to three-night cruises to the Bahamas.
In October 2016, Norwegian released the name of its third Breakaway Plus-class ship as Norwegian Bliss. Scheduled to debut in June 2018, Norwegian Bliss will home port in Seattle and offer Alaska-specific itineraries. Marine wildlife artists Wyland has been commissioned to design the hull work for this latest ship.
Launched in November 2016, Harvest Caye is Norwegian’s premier island destination for the Caribbean. Located in Southern Belize, this 75-acre oasis features luxurious beachside cabanas, an expansive pool with a swim-up pool bar, a lagoon for water sports, an exclusive beach, unique shore excursions and access to the world’s second largest barrier reef. Onshore venues include Landshark Bar & Grill, The Flighthouse, and a shopping village featuring popular name-brand retailers alongside local Belizean craftsmen.
Norwegian Dawn underwent a refurbishment in June 2016, receiving the ongoing Norwegian Edge™ enhancements. These included newly redesigned public spaces, refreshed décor in all staterooms, a revamped pool deck, expanded video arcade, two brand new restaurants, three new bars and lounges, as well as a complete makeover of the ship’s signature Garden Villas.
Pride of America emerged from dry dock in March 2016, where she received ship-wide enhancements as part of the fleet-wide Norwegian Edge™ initiative. Public spaces, dining venues and all staterooms received modern updates courtesy of contemporary décor and new furniture, as well as new lighting and flooring. Onboard dining has also been enhanced by new menus featuring increased variety, developed by Norwegian’s culinary team to blend popular traditional dishes with current dining trends. Plus, guests will see the addition of new venues such as the Soho Art Gallery, Perspectives Photo Studio, and Dolce Gelato, as well as an expanded Mandara Spa.
In late February 2016, Norwegian announced the name of their upcoming new Breakaway Plus-class vessel debuting Summer 2017 in China. Norwegian Joy will be the first purpose-built cruise-liner for the China market, with cuisine and onboard experiences especially tailored to this audience.
As of January 2016, Norwegian Cruise Line and Nickelodeon ended their exclusive partnership (that started in 2010), so there will no longer be a Nickelodeon at Sea program aboard Norwegian’s ships.
