♦ Pyramids of Giza & Great Sphinx

Have you ever been inside an Egyptian pyramid before? When visiting Cairo, you’ll have the chance. Also known as Giza Necropolis, this historic complex is home to the famous Great Pyramid of Giza, as well as the Pyramid of Khafre, Pyramid of Menkaure, and the Great Sphinx of Giza. You will also discover the Tomb of Queen Khentkaus I, a few cemeteries, and ruins of a workers’ village. For a small fee on top of general admission, you can enter each of the great pyramids and explore their many chambers and crypts. To make your visit truly unique, you can even ride a camel or horse through the grounds! This is a perfect activity for anyone who is fascinated by world history, and there will be some incredible photo opportunities.

♦ Khan el-Khalili

No trip to Cairo is complete without a visit to the Khan el-Khalili. This famous bazaar is located in the heart of the city and hosts a large number of local artisan vendors and craftworkers. Among some of the items you might find for sale include antiques, jewelry, street food, traditional crafts, and more. This market is also famous for serving Arabic coffee, which you can find in its many coffee shops. When you are done perusing this incredible marketplace, you can also check out a few more iconic landmarks that are nearby. For example, the Mosque of al-Hussein is located to the east, while the historic area of Bayan al-Qasrayn (featuring numerous monuments and medieval/Islamic buildings) is located to the northwest.

♦ The Egyptian Museum

History and culture buffs won’t regret stopping at the Egyptian Museum, which houses over 120,00 ancient artifacts and antiquities. You will discover two floors’ worth of exhibits about the ancient world and New Kingdom, Egyptian trade, Egyptian dynasties, and more. You will also be able to view items that were pulled from the tombs of numerous pharaohs, including Hatshepsut and Tutankhamun. A garden just outside of the museum pays homage to world-famous Egyptologists who have played an important role in understanding Egypt’s vast history. The Egyptian Museum is open daily from 9AM to 5PM, with night hours (5:30PM to 9:00PM on select nights). Hours of operation are subject to change.
