♦ Grand Place
The most notable and iconic attraction in all of Brussels is easily Grand Place (also called Grote Markt). A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Grand Place is the main city square, overlooked by Town Hall and filled with nothing short of massive beauty. This is where you can discover some of Brussel’s most notable buildings and guild houses (featuring stunning Baroque and Gothic architecture), cultural events, festivals, and more. It is such a famous destination that it’s even been the filming location for TV shows! There are also a bunch of cozy cafes (perfect for people watching) and a large flower market opens up during the summer. Grand Place is an excellent starting point for exploring Brussels, as it truly is the heart of the city!
♦ Atomium
This interesting yet iconic landmark was originally built for the 1958 Brussels World Expo and is now a museum and major tourist attraction. Towering over 300 feet into the air, this stainless-steel structure is shaped as the cell of an iron crystal, and contains museum exhibits, event space, and a panoramic restaurant at the top. Walking through a tubes and spheres of the Atomium is nothing short of an unforgettable experience! There’s also a gift shop where you can purchase something to remember your experience by. The views from the top of the Atomium are utterly breathtaking! Plus, it is located near a bunch of parks and nature reserves, so you can easily make a day out of visiting this amazing building.
♦ Museums
Brussels is filled with many interesting museums. Among some of the most noteworthy include Parc du Cinquantenaire (featuring art and military exhibits), the Belgian Comic Strip Center (a unique comic museum housed in a warehouse), the Musical Instruments Museum (featuring exhibits on classical and traditional instruments), the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium (with artwork from the 15th to 21st centuries), and the Brussels City Museum (featuring a unique collection of costumes for the famous statues found throughout the city). Another must-stop museum is Choco-Story Brussels, where you can discover all you ever wanted to know about chocolate-making, as well as watch demonstrations and enjoy sweet samples!
